Quick Hits
Just thought I would share some quick stuff with all 6 of you today...
Whenever you hear about Deanna Favre urging her husband to go back to playing football does that scene in Any Given Sunday pop into your head? You know the one where Dennis Quaid tells Lauren Holly he is thinking about retiring and they get into a huge argument and it ends with her slapping him, calling him something I can't write because my Girlfriend's mom might read this and he looking like half the man he once was. I really think something like that went down in the Favre household.
Is it me or does Pappi's wrist injury scream NOMAR!!!
Is the reason for the recent surge in off the field incidents by Georgia Football players have something to do with this...http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/uga/stories/2008/06/28/ugamascot_0629.html
Just wanted to let you guys know Brett Favre has just woken up and is brushing his teeth, sorry but I am trying to keep up with ESPN here...
Tony Romo is a lucky man... http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showbiz/bizarre/article1508463.ece
He might like to punch his teammates but I still say pound for pound Steve Smith is the best player in the NFL. Consider the fact that he is 5'9" 188 pounds, he is the only offensive weapon on the Panthers so he is constantly the focus of the opposing teams D, he has never had a real QB to throw to him and if you need anymore proof watch this video...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qmuu3M6IRMM
That should be good for today!

It's Already Happening
Manny Ramirez hasn't been a Dodger for 24 hours and it is already happening. It happened with Mo Vaughn, it happened with Nomar and it happened with Pedro. Believe me it will happen with David Ortiz if he chooses to finish his career somewhere else. It is an ugly thing and it makes me sad to root for my hometown team because they do it to every superstar that decides they no longer want to wear a Sox uniform. The writers in this town are letting the dirt fly and they don't care where it lands.
Look I am not a Manny apologist but I also think some of the sports writers in this town are a joke. Read this article by Gerry Callahan, http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/baseball/red_sox/view/2008_08_01_No_Dodging_it:_Manny_Ramirez_just_a_bad__bad_man/srvc=home&position=0
Now can you answer me this, if this incident with the Cancer Patients happened in Spring Training why wait until the day they ship Manny out of town to report on it? If you have such strong convictions about what a bad human being Manny is why wait to let the world know. Why didn't that story come out the day Callahan found out about it. I am sure he has known about this for some time now and he has sat on it. It makes him look like an even more bitter and angry human being than he already is.
I would call Gerry's very popular morning show on WEEI to argue my point but if you are familiar with it you know he will hang up on me the second I disagree with him.
More and more stuff like this is going to come out over the next few weeks. Things that will make it seem like Manny is the Anti-Christ and he is going to lead an army of the dead at an attempt at world domination.
Was Manny a good guy? Probably not. Did he take days off and play for the love of money and not the game. More than likely. But for once can the writers in this town take the high road and just say good-bye.
Who am I kidding, I can't wait for the day Kevin Youkalis decides to leave town and we start to hear about how he likes to drink. What if Josh Beckett goes away, will it come out that his bowling events are a sham. He uses them to hide the fact that he kicks dogs and punches old women.
Callahan's not the only one but he is the first of what will be many. Get over guys, don't you have better things to do? After all Jason Varitek is a free agent and probably won't re-sign don't you think you should be checking with his neighbors about whether or not he picks up after his dog takes a dump?

It's Getting Ugly
Watching the Sox game last night two things popped into my head:
1 - The Angels are the best team in baseball. In fact they might be the best team I have seen since at least the 04' Sox and maybe even as far back as the 98' Yankees. They hit, they pitch and they play D. If Mike Scioscia isn't getting Beer and Champagne dumped on him in October I will be shocked. Sorry Cubs fans.
2 - The Red Sox are done!
If any Sox fan thinks that they will be playing deep into October than they are kidding themselves.
The pitching is in trouble, Papi isn't the same and there is always Manny. Speaking of Manny, if he gets traded to the Marlins won't it be great that he will play in a stadium that was once played in by The Marks Brothers. I will be here all week folks, don't forget to tip your waitress.
Today is going to decide the rest of the Red Sox season. If they keep Manny they might be able to make it to the playoffs. But with the distractions that will come with him as well as the fact that Yankees are rolling right now I don't see them making it. If they trade him they are pretty much conceding the season. As good as Jason Bay might be, he's not Manny! He can't make up for the fact that David Ortiz doesn't look right. He can't make up for the fact that every week there are 2 or 3 Sox players that go into a 1 for 20 slump. I hate saying it but last night pretty much put the nail in the Sox coffin.
Hey don't fret Bostonians the Pats are in camp...

Frat House on Yawkey Way
I was sitting at Fenway Park last night taking it all in: The smell of stale beer, the over priced food, the really drunk guy throwing up in the stair well who told the cops he wasn't drunk it was the heat that was doing it to him. As I am sitting there it suddenly hit me, I am at the world's largest Frat House.
Welcome to Alpha Omega Fenway!
They were all there last night: Bluto, Otter, Boone, Flounder, Pinto and D-Day. Delta House was out in full force last night on Yawkey Way.
Now there are 4 things that every Frat House has and Alpha Omega Fenway gets a passing grade on all of them!
1. Sticky Floors - I got up from my seat last night and literally left my shoe behind. No joke it came right off. I am sure if you listen you can hear your shoe sticking to the ground every time you step. I tried but it was drowned out by a...
2. Drunken Sing-A-Long - I use to love the song "Sweet Caroline" it was one of those songs that if you heard in the car you could sing along to. It made me think of one of the most underrated movies of all-time, "Beautiful Girls." Now all I think of is the idiot in front of me swinging his hands back forth as he stands singing and I try to avoid the beer flying out of his cup. Every Frat party I have been to also has this moment at some point during the night. It is usually done to Dave Matthews though not Neil Diamond.... Needless to say both have performed at Alpha Omega Fenway the past two Summers
3. Girls thinking a guy is good looking only because he is in the Frat - Come on ladies, Dustin Pedroia? Really? If he didn't have a room at Second Base at Alpha Omega Fenway would you even look twice at this guy. He's barely 5'8", he's balding (severely I might add) and he has the body of a 6th grader. If you like him you will love the guy that delivered my pizza the other night.
4. Stupid Rituals - Frat houses usually have some kind of wacky ritual that goes on. You get paddled or they make you dress up in women's clothing or the ever popular elephant walk. The ritual at Alpha Omega Fenway is possibly the most annoying, idiotic and pointless ritual in all of sports... The Wave. There is nothing dumber than the wave. How is this suppose to get Mike Lowell pumped up for an eight inning at bat against K-Rod? Will someone explain why this is still around and why is it only done at Alpha Omega Fenway? You never see it at Gillette Stadium or in the Garden. Also why is it always some really drunk, fat, shirtless guy starting it? I dread the wave almost as much as I dread the words "Mr. Knochel it is time for your prostate exam."
As I left Alpha Omega Fenway last night it even looked like the outside of a Frat Party. People were stumbling everywhere, someone was sitting on a curb with their head between their knees, the cops were harassing some drunk underage kid.
I thought to myself what I use to everytime I left Frat Row in college, God I can't wait to do this again... TOGA, TOGA, TOGA!!!!

He wasn't an athlete, he was a god!
July 25th
First of all I would like to say Happy Anniversary to my parents… it’s the big 3-1 for Aprile and Rick.
I was reading Jeff Pearlman’s blog today when I came across this picture…
First of all I would like to say Happy Anniversary to my parents… it’s the big 3-1 for Aprile and Rick.
I was reading Jeff Pearlman’s blog today when I came across this picture…
While sitting at my desk and looking at this picture an overwhelming feeling came over me; it was my childhood.
Growing up I had my favorite Baseball players (Mark McGwire and Lenny Dykstra) and my favorite Football players (Jim Kelly and Steve Tasker) but Bo Jackson was in anther universe.
To me Bo Jackson was a god!!!
I remember thinking there was no way he was human. He was to perfect. Everything Bo did was on another level, he was a freak. It was like God had touched him on the day he was born and said “you will be the greatest athlete ever.”
The first time I ever saw Bo was in a game against the Sox. He hit 2 rockets off of the Monster; you would have thought they were going to put holes in it they were hit so hard. I remember saying I need to know everything about him. His real name (Vincent Edward), where he went to college (Auburn), where he was born (Alabama). The more I found out about him the more Bunyan like he became.
I didn't pray to god when I was little... I prayed to Bo!!!
I didn't pray to god when I was little... I prayed to Bo!!!
I once read that he was standing on the Centerfield warning track in Auburn Baseball Stadium with a group of teammates. One of them turned to him and asked him to throw a baseball as far as he could. Bo took the ball, backed up against the fence, took two steps and threw the ball… it landed in the fourth row of seats behind home plate!
Hall of Famer Buck O’Neil once said that when Bo hit a baseball it made a sound he had heard come from the bats of two other players: Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron.
The Legend of Bo Jackson grew even more when I found out that as good as he was at Baseball, he was even better at Football. Bo was the kind of Running Back that Jim Brown wishes he could have been. If Bo Jackson would have been a car he would have had the body of a 57 Caddy with the engine of Tony Stewart’s Nascar. Who can forget the Monday night game when he made Brian Bosworth his bitch. Or when he scored that 93 yard TD and kept on running up the tunnel.
I was hooked. I remember sitting at the dinner table and spreading the gospel of Bo Jackson.
“Mom, did you know Bo Jackson is so fast that he once hit a ball up the middle and it hit him as he was sliding into second”
“Dad did you know Bo Jackson is so strong that he when he does pushups he doesn’t push himself up, he pushes the Earth down”
I believed he could do anything. When Michael Jordan said “Bo knows Basketball” in those great “Bo Knows” Nike commercials, I actually expected to see him lining up at the 3 alongside His Airness for the Bulls. I hated Bo Diddly when he criticized Bo’s guitar playing by saying “Bo you don’t know diddly.” You are wrong sir!!! In fact; rumor is a young Vincent Edward Jackson once caught a plane to England and showed Jimmy Page the opening riff to “Stairway to Heaven”.
Bo was even the greatest video game character of all-time! Super Mario couldn't even pull this off.

Than the unthinkable happened, he was gliding (Bo glided he didn’t run) around his O-Line against the Bengals and he got hit on his hip. I thought “he’s fine; he’ll be back next week carrying 3 Chiefs into the end zone. But he didn’t, in fact Bo never played football again.
The day my childhood died!!!
A lot of things happened to me in 1991: I was in 5th grade, I made my first All-Star team in little league, I even kissed my first girl. More than any of those though I found out Bo Jackson was human.

Like I said Bo didn’t play Football again, he did play Baseball but he wasn’t the same. Yea, he hit a homerun in first at bat back but it didn’t impact me as much as it did before. He was a DH now; His glide was replaced with a limp.
Paul Bunyan was now just 6 feet tall.
I have since grown up and have responsibilities. I have clients that complain about their commercials, I have a car payment and rent, I have college loans and I have stress. All of that went away for a brief time today when I saw that picture. Thanks Bo!!!

What this blog is going to be about
The purpose of this blog is for me to let off some steam. I will use this as kind of a forum for me to sound off about everything from Sports to Pop Culture to Politics. Anything and everything will be subject to one of my rants.
I will try to update this blog once a day. Whether it be with a few lines about a TV Show I watched the night before or whether or not I think Manny Ramirez is a stumbling idiot that makes way to much money!
Look this is just a way for me to get some stuff off of my chest. I will have an update tomorrow. Thanks for giving this blog a chance.
